Hi and welcome to my Blog....

I am sure it will soon become evident that I am no literary master of words, though I hope to share some of my thoughts and experiences whilst I am out and about as a photographer.

These may be in the form of an account of a commissioned assignment or a stock photographing trip or personal project, or even some straight forward views on workshops I have attended.
Whilst I can claim to have accumulated a good deal of experience as a photographer, I am always on the look out for new stuff to learn and don't ever feel I know it all.

My visit to Auntie Val's Jerusalem

I recently met a remarkable lady who makes traditional jams and chutneys. What is remarkable about Val? You could be forgiven for thinking that there are lots of ladies making very good jams and everyone knows that the WI is founded on the talents of an army of wonderful ladies who have a passion for such provenance.

Well a number of things that I know of already make her stand out from the rest, and I've only met her a few times. Val makes a very impressive range of Marmalades, Jams and Chutneys which certainly stand out from any you'll find on supermarket shelves. Some of which are long forgotten recipes revived by her skill and knowledge, others are straight off the top of her head and will blow you away, like the seriously fiendish Chutney that Shaun, her able assistant can't get enough of.

Whilst her husband manages the marketing and accounts, Val runs production and product research and development.

The other remarkable thing is Val's ethics and principals which she applies to a business which now exports around the world to the Middle East and Australia.  In fact, whilst I was there she was producing an order for shipment to Western Australia.

She currently employs Sean as a part-timer, who she has trained into the job. Since joining her Shaun has achieved his accreditation for working in the food industry and clearly has a good deal of respect for his employer, conscientious and dedicated to giving his best to Auntie Val.

Prior to her going into food production, Val worked for many years with people with learning disabilities for which she still retains a commitment, such that as her business expands Val plans to offer employment to disadvantaged people.

Not as some box ticking exercise but because she believes that they present a real and valuable group of people who are worth taking for their ability to make a significant contribution and paying the going rate.

I very much enjoyed my morning spent with Val at her business premises, and came away convinced that there is much more to Auntie Val that is truly remarkable, and you couldn't choose a better product to start with than her delicious Marmalades, if you want to know more, click on the title bar of this article or go to www.auntievals.com
